and Ostend in Belgium; Amsterdam in Holland; Turin and Milan in Italy, and Bordeaux (2), Boulogne and Lorient in France. At the conclusion of this tour of operations, Squadron Leader Robinson was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the citation reading as follows:-
"This officer had carried out numerous operational flights by night, acting as captain of aircraft on seventeen occasions. These operations include a successful attack on oil works at Wesseling, an attack on the aerodrome at Bordeaux and a very successful attack on the ship-building yards at Stettin. Throughout he has displayed great skill and devotion to duty."
Squadron Leader Robinson was posted on the 15th January 1941 to the Central Landing Establishment, Ringway, Manchester, for a course in supply dropping by parachute. At the conclusion of this course he proceeded by air to Luqa, Malta arriving there on the 7th February. On the 16th February 1941 he returned to England by air and was posted on the 7th March 1941 to No. 19 Operational Training Unit, Kinloss, Morayshire, Scotland for duty as an instructor. After a period of rest he was posted on the 1st September 1941 to the Halifax Conversion Flight, Linton-on-Ouse, Yorkshire for conversion to Halifax bomber aircraft and on the 12th September was posted to No. 35 Squadron also at Linton-on-Ouse. With this squadron as captain of a Halifax bomber he took part in eight operational flights bringing his total to forty. These additional operations included attacks on Hamburg (2), Darmstadt, Mannheim, the Krupp Works at Essen, the "Scharnhorst" and "Gnesinau" at Brest, the marshalling yards at Nurnberg and Wihelmshaven. During the second attack on Hamburg carried out on the 31st October 1941 enemy fighter opposition was encountered and his navigator and rear gunner were both wounded.
