for a flying instructor course, and after some eighteen months instructing with No. 9 Flying Training School, was posted on the 10th January, 1938 to No. 7 Flying Training School as Chief Flying Instructor. In October 1938 he was posted to R.A.F. Headquarters, Aden for personnel staff duties.

In September 1940 while on sick leave at Makinashall Stations 100 miles from Aden Wing Commander Mitchell took ill with peritonitis from which he died on the 18th September. He was buried at Makinas.
