Ernest Millis was born at Dunedin on the 11th October 1892. He served overseas with the 2nd Otago Infantry Battalion of the 1st New Zealand Expeditionary Force for over four years and was awarded the Military Medal. When applying for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force on the 5th January 1942 he was employed as a plumber by the Public Works Department at Auckland.

Corporal Millis was enlisted at Whenuapai on the 1st April 1942 in the rank of Corporal, and employed there as a plumber.

Corporal Millis died of natural causes at Whenuapai on the 7th December 1944, and was buried in the Soldier's Section of the Waikumete Cemetery, Auckland.
