RAF981680 Sergeant Alexander Rae HENDRIE.
MOTHER: Mrs. E.A. Hendrie of Auckland.

Rae Hendrie was born at Dalziel, Lanarkshire, England on May 28th, 1920. On enlisting in the Royal Air Force on the 12th March, 1940 he was posted to No. 3 Recruit Centre, proceeding to the No. 3 Techncial Training School, Blackpool on May 24th, 1940, on a Flight Mechanic's Course. In November he was transferred to No. 2 School of Technical Training, Cosford.

In January, 1941 Sergeant Hendrie was posted to No. 50 Squadron, Swinderby. He then proceeded in June ot No. 63 Maintenance Unit, Carluke, Lanarkshire, being stationed at this Depot until May 30th, 1942, when he was posted to No. 4 School of Technical Training St. Athan for training as a Flight Engineer. The following month he was posted to No. 49 Squadron, Scampton, Lincolnshire for operational flying duties being promoted to the rank of Sergeant on June 12th, 1942.

Sergeant Hendrie was a member of the crew of a Lancaster bomber aircraft posted missing on the night of 12/13th October, 1942 the target being Wismar, Germany. No further information was received from any source and Sergeant Hendrie was assumed to have lost his life on October 12, 1942.
