Training Unit, Desborough, Northamptonshire, where he crewed up and completed his training on Wellington bomber aircraft. Late in July he was posted to No. 1657 Heavy Conversion Unit, Stradishall, Suffolk, where he converted to Stirling aircraft before posting on the 11th September to No. 199 Squadron, North Creake, Norfolk.

On the 25th September, F/Sgt. Henderson was the air bomber of a Stirling aircraft which crashed near Saxthorpe Village, Norfolk. All the members of the crew, including F/Sgt. Henderson lost their lives. He was buried in the Regional Cemetery, Cambridgeshire.
