Hampshire, and with this squadron he took part in 3 operational flights, being anti-submarine patrols in the Bay of Biscay.

F/Sgt. Heays was a member of the crew of a Liberator aircraft engaged in an anti-submarine patrol over the Bay of Biscay on the 21st September 1943. The aircraft was attacked by enemy fighters, and F/Sgt. Heays received wounds from which he died during the same day in Hospital in England. He was buried in the Haycombe Cemetery, Bath.
