From the attack against the target in Paris, undertaken on the 29th April 1942 the aircraft failed to return to its base, and all the members of the crew, including Pilot Officer Heald were classified as missing. In due course his death was officially presumed to have occurred on the 29th April, 1942 as the result of air operations. Enquiries subsequent to the cessation of hostilities established that Pilot Officer Heald's aircraft collided with another British aircraft on the 30th April 1942 on the north side of Maison - Laffite in the Parc-De-Maisons, Pilot Officer Heald losing his life. He was buried in military plot of the cemetery at Bievres, France.
