On 30th March, 1942, Flying Officer Blunden was pilot of a Halifax aircraft which was engaged on a bombing raid and which failed to return to its base. The International Red Cross Committee reported that three members of the crew were buried in Germany, but of the other four, including F/O Blunden, there was no mention. His death has officially been presumed to hace occurred on that date.
