A.402154 Leading Aircraftsman Thomas Arthur Hughes ALEXANDER.
Parents : Mr. & Mrs. N. A. Alexander of Coromandel.

Thomas Alexander was born in Boston,
England on March 22nd 1914, and came to New Zealand at an early
age. He received his secondary education at the Mt. Albert
Grammar School where his sports were Rugby, Soccer, Cricket, Tennis
and Swimming. He later took up riding and shooting. Being
unsuccessful in his application for enrolment in the Civil Reserve
of Pilots in 1938 he applied for War Service on September 12th.
1939 and was accepted. His civilian occupation was that of
Motor Salesman for Dominion Motors, Auckland.

Leading Aircraftsman Alexander was
enlisted at the Initial Training Wing, Levin on July 28th. 1940,
as Airman-Pilot under training. He was posted to New Plymouth
on August 24th. for his elementary training and proceeded to
Ohakea for his service training on October 26th.

Leading Aircraftsman Alexander was
the pupil pilot of a Harvard aircraft which crashed at Ashhurst,
Palmerston North on December 30th. 1940, both the pupil and
instructor losing their lives. Leading Aircraftsman Alexander was
buried in the Palmerston North Cemetery.
