425583 Sergeant Trevor Alexander ALBREY.
Parents : Mr. & Mrs. R. A. Albrey of Crous Downs, Foxton.

Trevor Albrey was born at Bulls on the
11th. March 1922 and educated at the Crous Downs School,
passing the Proficiency examination. He was employed in dairy
farming for a number of employers at Curus Downs prior to
applying for enlistment in aircrew in February 1941.

Sergeant Albrey was enlisted at the
Initial Training Wing, Levin on the 30th. May 1942 and
moved with the Wing to Rotorua during May. He embarked for
Canada on the 14th. August to train under the Empire Air
Training Scheme.

Shortly after arrival there he was
posted on the 12th. September to No. 2 Wireless School,
Calgary, Alberta, and then early in April 1943 to No. 5
Bombing and Gunnery School, Dafoe, Saskatchewan. Here,
on the 17th. May, he was awarded the Wireless Operator Air
Gunner badge and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Late the
same month he proceeded to No. 34 operational training unit
Pennfield Ridge, New Brunswick for crewing up and completion
of his training.

Sergeant Albrey was a member of the
crew of a Ventura aircraft engaged on a low level cross
country flight during the 11th. August 1943. The aircraft
failed to return to its base and all the crew including
Sergeant Albery were classified as missing. Later, some
wreckage of the aircraft was found in the Bay of Fundy
between the Wolves Islands and New Brunswick Mainland. In due
course the death of Sergeant Albery was officially presumed
to have to have occurred on the 11th. August 1943.
