Ex-Dunbar High Athlete Gets Lincoln Scholarship
Former Dunbar High School star tennis and basketball player Phillip Morris Jones was recently awarded a four-year scholarship to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Officials of the school said that they had heard about Jones ability in basketball and tennis, and had been watching him for a possible scholarship.
Jones was also president of the class of 1960 at Dunbar High School, where he did all of his high school work, but his sports ability was chiefly responsible for the scholarship.
Presently, the Dunbar graduate is making ready to leave for
college September 10. He will major in physical education and minor in biology at the Missouri university.
He just returned from a vacation trip to California, where he and his grandmother visitied friends and relatives. They also talked with Patricia King, who toured Europe this summer.
Several local business and some of Jones' friends have presented him with going-away gifts, including Mrs. Essie Hill, Mrs. Gary Eaves, and Mr. Jones of the Lufkin Laundry.
Others wishing to give him gifts are asked to call NE 4-4871 or deliver them to 118 Booker Street.
