is a provision for said children in connection with
a certain conveyance intended as advancement to some of
said children, to wit, a deed to said Joshua of a negro
named Littleton, to said Julia of a negro named Ellen,
[and] to said James of a negro named Charles. And it is
understood herein that I do retain without any charge
or hinderance whatvever in fee simple, and without impediment
and in my own right, five other negro slaves now in
my possession, to wit: Nancy, a mulatto woman aged
about twenty-two years, and her two children, Betty,
aged about three years, and Cyrena, her infant child;
Andrew, a negro boy, about fourteen years old; and
Richard, a negro boy, about ten years old, together with
their increase, which as aforesaid I hereby reserve to myself.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this, the 25th day of May A. D. 1854.

County of Newton } Before me, John Moore, Clerk
of the County Court of Newton County, personally
appeared Lewis Conner, one of the subscribing witnesses
to the annexed instrument of writing, and after being
duly sworn by me, said on his oath that James F. Trotti
did in his presence sign said instrument of writing,
and acknowledged his signature to the same to be his
act and deed for the consideration and purposes therein
expressed, and that he, at the request of said Trotti,
signed the same as a witness. Said instrument bearing
date May the 25th, 1854. To certify which, I
hereunto sign my name and affix the
seal of my office this, the first
day of August A. D. eighteen
hundred and fifty-four, 1854.
