The State of Texas,
Newton County } Know all men by
these presents that I, Friend McMahon Jr.
of the county and state aforementioned, for and in consideration
of the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars
to me in hand paid by E. W. Harper, executor of
the estate of Josiah Stevenson, deceased, the receipt of which
is hereby acknowledged and acquitted, the same being
the amount in full of the sum for which a certain
negro woman named Cherry, aged about fifty
years, was pledged or hypothecated to me by the
aforesaid Josiah Stevenson, deceased, as shown by an
instrument of writing purporting the same drawn
on the 22 day of November A. D. 1851. I therefore do by this
act return, restore and deliver over unto the said
E. W. Harper, the executor as aforesaid of said Stevenson,
the negro woman aforesaid, and by these presents transfer
and convey unto the said executor or estate of
Josiah Stevenson all my right, title or claim to
the said negro woman Cherry from me and my heirs
or assigns forever. In testimony of the foregoing, I
hereunto place my signature and seal (a scrawl) on this,
the 20th day of January A. D. 1854.
