The State of Texas,
County of Newton } Know all men by these presents that I,
Alexander Wilson, and wife Mary Wilson, both of the county
and state aforesaid, have this day sold to Nancy Woods, wife
of Solemn Woods, of same county and state, a certain mulatta
woman named Rhoda, a slave for life, for the sum of seven hundred
dollars to us in hand paid, the receipt whereof is
hereby acknowledged. And we, the said Alexander Wilson
and wife Mary L. Wilson, for ourselves and our heirs, warrant the title to
the said mulatta woman Rhoda to the said Nancy Woods and her
heirs forever against the lawful claims of all and every preson
whomsoever. And we further warrant said woman Rhoda a
slave for life, and to be sound, healthy and sensible, and twenty-one
years of age. Given under my hand and seal this
second day of February A. D. 1852.

The State of Texas,
County of Newton } Before me, John Moore, Clerk of the
County Court of Newton County, personally appeared
Alexander Wilson and his wife Mary L. Wilson, parties to a certain
deed or writing bearing date on the 2nd day of February A. D. 1852
and herewith annexed, and acknowledged their signature to the same. And Mary L. Wilson, wife of said
Alexander Wilson, having been examined by me privily and
apart from her husband, and having the same fully explained
to her, she, the said Mary L. Wilson, acknowledged the same to
be her act and deed, and declared that she had wittingly
signed, sealed and delivered the same, and that she wished
not to retract it. To certify which, I hereunto sign my name
and affix my seal of office this,
the 2nd day of February A. D. 1852.
