The Republic of Texas, County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, George Bryan of the County of Galveston and republic aforesaid, for and in consideration of five hundred dollars secured to me by a promissory note of this date for said amount

of five hundred dollars, payable on the fifteenth day of April next, [and] signed by David Russell of the county and republic aforesaid, have this day bargained [and] sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell to said David Russell a certain negro girl, a slave for life named Milley, aged about fourteen years. To have and to hold the said negro slave Milly unto the said David Russell, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns to his and their own proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And I, the said George Bryan, for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, do warrant the said negro girl Milly to be sound in body and mind. And do further warrant and defend the title to the said David Russell, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, and against me and every other person or persons whatsoever. Said negro girl Milly being at this time at Point Bolivar. I further bind myself to deliver said negro girl Milly to said David Russell or his agent at Point Bolivar when called on to do so. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and scroll for seal this thirty-first day of December eighteen hundred and forty-five. Witness, D. J. Otho Millard, Joseph P. Pulsifer. George Bryan {Seal}. Personally appeared before the undersigned authority George Bryan and acknowledged that he signed, sealed and delivered the foregoing bill of sale as his voluntary act and deed for the consideration therein expressed. I, Alexander Calder, Clerk of the County Court of Jefferson County, do hereby certify the foregoing to be a true copy of the original filed in my office for record on the 1 day of January A. D. 1846. The Republic of Texas, County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, Gabriel Robinson, in consideration of two hundred and forty dollars worth of property paid over at the instance of McGuire Chesson and of sixty dollars which he has promised to pay me, making three hundred dollars, I hereby bargain, sell and convey unto Eliza Chesson and her heirs a certain negro boy slave, about eight years old, named Martin, being black (his mother being called Nelly). To have and to hold said slave to said Eliza Chesson and her heirs forever this third day of December A. D. eighteen hundred and forty-five. My scrawl by way of seal. James Chesher, James Armstrong.
