Republic of Texas, County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, William D. Smith, am held and firmly bound unto Malcom S. McAlpin in the sum of two thousand dollars lawful money of this Republic for the true payment of which I bind myself, my heirs, assigns, and legal representatives. if the above William D. Smith shall deliver unto Malcom S. McAlpin eight negroes, to wit, John, Joseph, Rhoda, John, Robert, Peter, Lucy, and Daniel, on the payment of two thousand dollars with lawful interest from this date to the aforesaid William D. Smith, then the above obligation to be null and void and the bill of sale given by said McAlpin to said Smith to be null and void; otherwise to remain in full force and virtue in law. The Republic of Texas, County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, Timothy Rowley of the County [of] Jefferson and republic aforesaid, for and in consideration of the [love and] affection which I have and bear for my present wife Easter Ann [Rowley] and my brother-in-law Francis Netters and my sister-in-law Sary Jane Netters and [Marga]rett Netters, I do hereby and by these presents give and donate to them, the said Easter [Ann] Rowley, my present wife, and Francis Netters and Sary Jane Netters and Margarett [Netters], my brother-in-law and my sister's-in-law as aforesaid, all my right, title, claim and [interest] in and to the following named and described property (to wit): one negro man named Amos, about twenty-eight years old, of dark complexion. Also, one negro man named March, about twenty-six years old. Also, our negro girl named Emaline, about twenty years old. Also, one negro boy named Tom, about twelve years old. Also, one negro boy named Miny, about fifteen years old. Also, one negro boy named Caroline, about twelve years old. Also, one black horse named Moses, about two years old. Also, one black mule named Pinhook, about nine years old. To have and to hold the above-described property to the said Easter Ann Rowley and Francis Netters and Sary Jane Netters and Margarett Netters, their heirs, executors, administrators, or assigns in equal shares and proportions forever.
