in and for the county aforesaid this 29th day of August A. D. one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, personally came and appeared Robert E. Booth, who acknowledged the annexed instrument to be his act and deed for the purposes in the same expressed and set forth, and desired to certify the same. To certify which, as authority, I grant these presents under my hand and seal of office at Galveston the day and date above. {Seal} R. D. Johnson, Chief Justice and ex officio Notary Public, Galveston County. I hereby certify the foregoing to be a true copy of the original mortgage from Robert E. Booth to Thomas J. Spear executed on the 29th day of August 1843 and received in my office for record September 10th, 1843. Given under my hand, September 19th, 1843. The Republic of Texas, County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, Stephen R. Marble of the county and republic aforesaid, in consideration of the natural love and affection that I [have] and bear for my daughter Luanza Calder (formerly Luanza [Marble]) and the legal heirs of her body during her coverture with Alexan[der] Calder, her present lawful husband, and other good considerations, me [thereto] moving, have this day given, granted, conveyed, and delivered unto [the] said Luanza Calder and her heirs (and their assigns) as aforesaid [two] certain female slaves, to wit, Lizzy, aged about twelve years, and F[ran]cis, aged about eight years. Both of said slaves now in the possession of Alexander Calder, husband of said Luanza Calder aforesaid. Also, all my right, title, interest, and claim in the stock of cattle and horse in the following brand, to wit, /\ C, being about two hundred head of cattle more or less and five head of horses. Also, twenty cows and calves, [which are] to be delivered and branded in the above brand within twelve months from the date of this deed of gift. The same with the above bound that I this day purchased from Alexander Calder. To have and to hold the above-described slaves and stock of cattle and horses in the above brand, as also the twenty cows and calves to be delivered as above-mentioned, unto the said Luanza Calder and her heirs as aforesaid. I bind myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators to warrant

and forever defend the title to the above described property unto the above-named Luanza Calder, unto her heirs as aforesaid and to her assigns against any person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and scroll by way of seal this tenth day of September A. D. one thousand eight hundred and forty-four. Signed, sealed and delivered in presence of David Garner. Stephen R. Marble and signed, sealed and delivered the foregoing deed of gift in my presence, and acknowledged the same to be his voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein specified. Know all men by these presents that I, Louis Hebert, in consideration of the love and affection which I have for my daughter Azama Mary Mills, wife of W. J. Mills, of Louisiana, do hereby give, grant and convey to my daughter Azama Mary Mills and her heirs forever all my right to our female slave named Liz, alias Lize, and also the two children born of said Lize. All of which was now in the possession of my said daughter in the State of Louisiana. To have and to hold said slaves to the said Azama Mary and her heirs [for]ever. My scroll by way of seal. Martin, and being sworn in due form of law, says he saw Louis Hebert sign, seal and deliver the foregoing instrument, and acknowledge the same to be his voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein contained. {Seal}.
