The Republic of Texas,
County of Jefferson } Know all men by these presents that I, James
Netters of said county and republic, hath this 9th
of December A. D. 1842 bargained, sold and delivered and do by these
presents bargain, sell and deliver unto James Hoggatt, in consideration of
the sum of two thousand dollars to me in hand paid, the receipt
of which is hereby by me acknowledged, the following named and described
negroes (to wit): one negro man named Bob, aged about 30 years; Jacob,
aged about 40 years; Geary, aged about 13 years; and Joiner, about 11
years old. And I do hereby warrant said negroes to be sound and slaves
for life. And I do hereby warrant and defend the title of said negroes to the
said James Hoggatt from the lawful titles and claims of myself
and all other persons whatsoever. Given under my hand and scroll by way
of seal this, the day and date above written. Signed, sealed and delivered
for the purposes herein expressed.

the original bill of sale from James Netters to James Hoggatt as
