State of Texas,
County of Hardin } Received of J. Van Dwinter
eleven hundred dollars lawful
money in full payment for a certain negro woman
named Esther, aged about fifteen years. Which negro
I warrant and defend from myself, my heirs and
assigns, and all other persons to the said J. Van Dwinter,
his heirs and assigns. [And she is] cl[ear] of all enthrallments whatever.
And I also warrant said negro to be sound in body and
mind. Signed in presence
of Mathias Brackin,
William G. Brackin. To certify which, I hereunto sign
my name and affix my seal, using
scrawl for seal, this, the twenty-fifth
day of November A. D. 1862.
