Apr 28th 1871.

Mr. Robert E Russell,
Esteemed Friend
There has been
some time passed since I received your letter
of the sixteenth surely you must think
me a very slow correspondent; I have put
off writing untill [F]riday and I will have
to hurry or not make a very long sloppy letter
as things done in a hurry is never done well
I must write you some this much for it
will be a long time be fore that privilege
is granted again;

Today will be the announcement of
the quarterly meet[t]ing at Wilem's Chapel
I have no idea it would do me any good
if I was to go: so I will stay aat home
and try to be better if I can
I will answer some of your questions by
asking a favor do you think ^that if Maud
would not tell, aught I to do so, and I
think I would be [prejudice?] for her
