To his Excellency A B Moore

Sir

Mr C A Stanley & Peter J Mason will present to your Excellency copys of Bills of Inditement found against one John R Merritt one from Covington Co for Grand Larceny the other from Coffee County for the crime of Murder It has been ascertained that the said John R Merritt after fleeing from Justice here has located some where in the state of North Carolina where he continues to be a great an noyance to the good Citizens of that state, The citizens of both Covington & Coffee Counties are very anxious for the arrest of said fugitive and that he shall be brought to Justice and for this purpose have dispatcht Mesr Stanley & Mason as suitable agents to receive him there and deliver him over here to the proper authorities of this State if he should be arrested there It is desired that your Excellency should make a demand of the Excecutive of the State of North carolina to have him arrested in that State if found there and delivered over to the authorised

agents from this State whosoever you may appoint for that purpose that he may be delivered over here to the proper authorities to be tried for the several offences for he stands charged It is recommended that Charles A Stanley & Peter J Mason should be apointed [a?]gents by you for the purposes aforesaid and it desired that your Excellency should offer a suitable reward for the apprehension and delivery of said John R Merrit to the proper authorities here as an encourage ment to them to be vigilant and persevering in there undertaking as he is known in this community to be one of the very worst of villians It is proper to state that a small subscript has been made by the people here to Stanley and Mason for the arrest & delivery of the said Merritt but not more than enough to defray expenses in there travel and for this reason it is believed that the State of Alabama ought to lend [u?]s aid in arresting and bringing to Justice all such notorious Scoundrels hoping that your excellency will give all such necessary aid in the premises as duty may seam to demand I remain repectfully your obt sevt
