Sir.

A large number of socks might be Bot[?] here if any one was authorised to do so for the State. The Judge of Probate receive such as are contributed but buys none that are offered for sale. Those that are offered for sale are made by the poor families in the county who have to sell them to whoever will buy & pay them ^the money-as they need the money to supply their immediate wants I therefore suggest that you select some one here to purchase for the State-almost any one of the citizens would do so without compensation
