The Grand Jury of said County charge
that before the finding of this indictment
James Hubbard and George Bishop
assaulted and beat a slave named
Clayton the property of Virgil Gardiner
the said James Hubbard and George Bishop
or either of them not being the master
of said slave, or person occupying the
relation of master, to said slave
against the peace and dignity
of the State of Alabama
