1836 4th 7 mo Called Independence, accidents frequently happen in celebration this day. Thomas a Ship Carpenter on Brant Point, was severely wounded by the discharge of a Cannon on Brant Point, his right arm was shattered bery much so that a speedy amputation became necessary.

7th 7 mo The weather is dry, the grass {???]

11th Much easterly foggy weather.

12th Considerable rain fall last night, which was very seasonable, as the weather had become quite dry and dusty.

16th Last night some rain. Today dry cold NE wind overcast.

17 Clear & cloudy & very cold, strong wind at NE

23.7 Thomas & myself, John Nicholson & wife left here to go to [???] on Long Island to attend the [???] Mtg.

31. Returned home and found our families all well, we had a pleasant satisfactory visit.

1st 9mo Summer is past, almost unperceived. The weather has been so cold generally, and so little summer like heat, that the season has advanced seemingly so rapidly, that it has retarded the growth of every kind of vegetation. And of late the season has been uncommonly dry.

9.9 Our Market has been tolerably well supplied, but almost every article of family consummtion [CONSUMPTION] is dear. Wood $8.50, Flour 9.25, Corn 1.10, Sperm Oil 95 cents.
