Description

Partial logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic Ocean. Mastered by Samuel Tobey, keeper Paul Wainer, on voyage June 16, 1806 - December 5, 1807. Includes descriptions of whales seen and taken, accidents, and illnesses. Also contains whale drawings and ship drawings. One whaleboat was stove by an "unlucky sea" on November 22, 1806. One of the barrels was leaking oil on 19 January 1807 but was quickly fixed by the cooper. One whaleboat was stove by heavy winds on February 17, 1807. The keeper writes that the Cook was sick in April 1807. Other places represented include Cape Sainte Marie (Madagascar) and Elephant Island (Portuguese Island, Mozambique Channel). Whaling grounds include the Delagoa Bay grounds.
