Constitution of the First Division of the Corporation of the Philomathesian Society Revised July 1829 Preamble By the provision made in the second section of the first chapter of the general constitutio; And for the purpose of the mutual improvement and social intercourse. We, the members of the first Division of the Corporation of the Philomathesian Society, adopt the following constitution. Section 1st Art [1st] The immediate object of this Division shall be to improve composition and disputation. Section 2nd Art 1st Appointment and duty of the officers There shall be a president of this society, to which office senior [sophisters] only shall be eligible. Art 2nd It shall be the duty of the president, to preside, and preserve order in all meetings of the society. to put for decision all motions, resolutions, and questions regularly sub-mitted; to declare all votes, and decisions, and, with the advice of the [], to call extra meetings of the society. Art 2. The president shall have power during any session of the Society to impose a fine not exceeding fifty cents, on any member who shall violate the laws or disturb the order of the society.
