Dear Mr. Kalles:
I had not meant to malign the memory of the
late President Eisenhower; what I had actually
said was that Nixon was returning the country
to the ear of "do-nothingness" in the Presidency;
Eisenhower typified this attitude, I believe, and
acted in Little Rock with great reluctance and
only after tremendous pressure was brought to
bear.
United Press International chose, as is their
right, to report part and only part of what I
said.
Sincerely,
Julian Bond
Mr. Paul Kalles, Jr.
