Dear Miss Medow:

First let me sincerely apologize for the inconvenience which I am causing you. I regretfully will be unable to be with you on March 21. As you may know, my regular secretary has been in the hospital and my substitute secretary is unfamiliar with my schedule and plans. Some weeks ago I instructed my secretary to inform you of a conflicting speaking engagement which would make my visit to Roosevelt impossible. By some lack of communication in the change of secretaries this apparently was no done. I discovered only this weekend that you were still expecting me at Roosevelt. I can only apologize and hope you will understand my situation.

Sincerely,

Julian Bond
