To His Excellency J. Gill Shorter Gov of Ala.
Dr Sir
I understand that you have the appointment of Some person or persons to the office of [Putter?] or to travel through the country designated by your honor for the purpose of buying or purchasing Socks cloth and clothing generally for the soldiers of the Confederate Army and feeling that it is the duty of all to try to do something for the cause and being unable to Stand the hardships of camp life in exclusively from the Severe affictions of Rheumatism I have concluded that I might be of some Service to my country in the capacity of furnisher of clothing &c. therefore if it meets your Honors approbation and will give me the appointment and designate my field of labor I will be happy to at once to enter upon its duties hoping to hear from you soon at Mountain Ala I remain your Obt Servt &c

we the undersigned take pleasure in recomending Mr Curry from the fact that he has for some time been engaged in a Mercantile business and know of our own Knowledge that he is entirely sober not in the habit even of drinking as a beverage also economical prudent and discreet and would fully discharge all the duties assigned him Satisfactorily &c &c
